HMF Special will air this Friday { jennifer }

I LOVE MY JOB! :) I am still on a high from yesterday's Harvest Moon Festival! I have to say it may have been one of the most successful events since I've been at the station.

Despite the warm weather, the crowds came out trying to win one of five $500 cash prizes and the brand new 2012 Toyota Camry. Many fans came to the entertainment main stage area to cheer on their favorite musical talents.

I was the Festival Stage Manager for the event and spent many months planning and booked 16 groups, which comprised of local cultural dance troupes, as well as bands and popular YouTube artists. It was a joy working with everyone and seeing all the young talent share their love of music and the arts with the community. It was like a mini-reunion for all the artists (Manny Garcia, Tranley, Dan Matthews from afterschoolspecial, Jennifer Chung, Jason Chen and AJ Rafael). The admiration and love for one another was apparent when they all came to the stage and sang a collab (AJ's song, She Was Mine) as the last song of AJ Rafael's set. It was perfect.

Mighty Boba Truck Comes to LA 18 { jennifer }

Just in time for Summer!

The Mighty Boba Truck—a gourmet food truck that creates delicious Taiwanese food and Boba teas – came to LA 18 for a private event! Delicious lunch set boxes with boba drink!

All LA 18 Employees were excited for some Taiwanese eats and refreshing boba tea drinks to satisfy their palates.

This was our first time ever having a food truck come to the station to cater. We didn’t know what to expect and had to plan accordingly.

Our VP of HR and I set up a useful staggered lunch schedule to prevent any carmageddon-type back up of hungry employees. It worked out great!

Convenient + Delicious Food = Happy Employees, right?

Carmageddon inches near... { jennifer }

With the 405 Freeway set to be closed this weekend, July 16-17, there's been some anxiety among residents of the San Fernando Valley and West Los Angeles. Over the past months there's been articles of the impending gridlock and traffic mayhem from this two-day Muholland bridge demolition project.

The 405 Freeway is one of the major freeways used in LA and residents are already planning their getaway plan to escape and avoid the traffic congestion all together. While those who decide to stay in the area, restaurants and businesses are already lining up their Carmageddon-themed drink specials and heavily discounted entrees, with hopes locals will ride this out together over a delicious meal and merry drinks.

Metro and Metrolink recently announced their planned transit services during the closure weekend - July 16-17, 2011. Metro will provide free rides on the Metro Red/Purple Line subway, as well as on the Metro Orange Line and select bus lines during the closure weekend to further spur transit trips between the San Fernando Valley and downtown Los Angeles. Valley residents are encouraged to park at available park & ride lots at North Hollywood, Van Nuys, Sepulveda, Balboa, Reseda, Pierce College and Canoga Stations, that together offer more than 4,000 parking spaces, and ride Metro to reach their destinations. Walking, bicycling or taking transit to access stations is also encouraged.

The Metro Board gave the CEO authority to offer additional free fares on the Metro Bus and Rail system, particularly for Westside and other needed service areas.

Metro will also add a total of 61 buses to normal Saturday and Sunday schedules for eight major bus lines and up to 16 buses to protect late night and owl services serving key San Fernando Valley/Westside routes to accommodate increased travel times. Both the Metro Red and Purple Lines will operate weekday peak period service levels, or approximately every 10 minutes all weekend, with six and four car trains, respectively. The Metro Green Line will also run every 10 minutes throughout the weekend.

Metro will closely monitor traffic congestion on all routes in the I-405 construction area and will make needed adjustments to bus service based on the current traffic conditions. Transit patrons should, however, anticipate longer trip times to reach their destinations and plan accordingly.

Metrolink will supplement its current weekend schedule by offering seven round-trips on its Ventura County Line and nine additional trips on its Antelope Valley Line during the closure weekend. Metrolink will also offer its $10 Weekend Pass, which enables passengers to ride any Metrolink train, as many times as they would like between Friday night at 7pm and Sunday night at 11:50pm for one low rate.

More information on Metrolink service and affordable ticketing options can be found at metrolinktrains.com.

Remember, to brace yourselves this weekend!! Between word-of-mouth public awareness, residents traveling out of town and taking subsidized Metro transporation fare, I'm hoping this weekend won't be the defined 'Carmageddon.' As for me, I'm planning to go out of town. :)
